# LumiID: Identity Verification APIs for Africa

> LumiID provides REST APIs to verify Nigerian NINs, BVNs, bank accounts, businesses, and biometric identities for KYC, KYB, and fraud prevention.

LumiID is an identity verification platform built specifically for Africa. Whether you're building a fintech app, a lending platform, an HR system, a marketplace, a healthcare platform, or an enterprise workflow, LumiID lets you verify identities in seconds — reducing fraud and keeping you compliant with local regulations. Every API is designed around African identity infrastructure, not adapted from global solutions that weren't built with Nigeria in mind.

## What You Can Build

With LumiID APIs, you can power a wide range of identity-driven use cases across industries:

* **Fintech & Digital Banking** — Verify identities for account opening, loan disbursement, and wallet top-ups
* **Lending Platforms** — Run KYC and AML checks before approving credit
* **HR & Payroll Systems** — Confirm employee identities and validate tax records
* **E-commerce & Marketplaces** — Prevent return fraud and reduce chargebacks at checkout
* **Telecommunications** — Enable NCC-compliant SIM registration and mobile onboarding
* **Healthcare Providers** — Validate patient identities and eliminate duplicate records
* **Government Services** — Power citizen identity workflows with NDPR-compliant data handling
* **Corporate KYB** — Verify businesses via CAC and TIN before onboarding vendors or partners

## Available APIs

| API | Description |
| - | - |
| **NIN Verification** | Verify Nigerian National Identification Numbers against NIMC records |
| **BVN Verification** | Verify Bank Verification Numbers against CBN data |
| **CAC Verification** | Validate registered businesses against Corporate Affairs Commission records |
| **TIN Verification** | Verify taxpayer identification records |
| **NUBAN Account Verification** | Validate Nigerian bank account ownership and details |
| **Liveness Detection** | Confirm a user is physically present and not a photo or deepfake |
| **Face Match** | Compare two face images and return a similarity score |
| **Gov ID Face Match** | Match a selfie against the biometric photo from a government ID |
| **AML Screening** | Screen individuals and businesses against sanctions lists, PEP registers, and watchlists |

## Why LumiID

**Fast Integration** — REST APIs return clean JSON responses. Most integrations are live within minutes, not days.

**Enterprise Security** — All communication is encrypted over HTTPS. Authentication is key-based, and data handling is aligned with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

**Built for Africa** — LumiID is purpose-built infrastructure designed for African identity systems — NIN, BVN, CAC, TIN — rather than a global product retrofitted to local needs.

**Reliable** — High-availability infrastructure designed for production workloads, with typical response latency under two seconds.

**Developer Friendly** — Clear documentation, a predictable JSON envelope across all endpoints, a free Sandbox environment for testing, and consistent error codes make debugging straightforward.

## Base URL

Both the Sandbox and Production environments share the same base URL. Your API key determines which environment your requests run against.

| Environment | Base URL |
| - | - |
| **Production** | `https://api.lumiid.com/v1/` |
| **Sandbox** | `https://api.lumiid.com/v1/` |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Always send requests over **HTTPS**. HTTP requests are not supported and will fail.

## Standard Response Format

Every LumiID endpoint returns a consistent JSON envelope so your error-handling logic works the same way across all APIs.

**Successful response:**

```json theme={null}
{
  "success": true,
  "message": "Verification completed",
  "data": {}
}
```

**Failed response:**

```json theme={null}
{
  "success": false,
  "message": "Invalid NIN",
  "error": {
    "code": "INVALID_NIN"
  }
}
```

Check `success` first — if it is `false`, read `error.code` for the machine-readable reason and `message` for a human-readable explanation. A full list of error codes is available in the [API Error Codes reference](https://docs.lumiid.com/reference/error-codes.md).
